Supermarkets in Sitges, Spain: Food Shops in Sitges Centre

Sitges has a reasonable amount of supermarkets. Even if you are just looking for sandwich ingredients, it is far better to head to one of the larger stores than the Spar style shops closer to the beach, where beach side location pushes up prices immensely. In general, the supermarkets have more convenient opening hours than the smaller shops (see below) - they do not close for siesta.

Mercadona Supermarket in Sitges

Sitges' Mercadona is probably the largest city centre supermarket. It offers standard supermarket food, plus a bakery section selling fresh bread. It is located right next to Sitges train station - making it a convenient place to stop for picnic supplies when you hop off the train and are heading to the beach. It is open twelve hours a day - giving ample opportunity to get your shopping done.

Above the Mercadona supermarket is where you will find Sitges' newly renovated food market. The supermarket and the market make a great duo. Although there are fresh products available in Mercadona, you may wish to check the market first - their produce is more likely to be local and fresh. You can then make your way to the Mercadona supermarket to find all of the essentials that are not available in the food market, such as pasta, bread and tinned goods.

Caprabo Supermarket in Sitges

Caprabo is one of Spain's most omnipresent supermarkets. It offers the normal food that you would expect to find in a medium sized supermarket - fresh, dried and frozen, plus toiletries, alcohol and confectionary. The Caprabo in Sitges has no deli counters. If you are looking for affordable options it is best to search for the supermarket's own brand products - called 'Eroski'. Shopping in Caprabo can prove surprisingly expensive, but this can definitely be avoided if you keep an eye on the price labels and opt for the own brand products.

Veritas Supermarket in Sitges

Veritas Supermarket and Health Food Store

For lovers of fair trade, health and organic food Veritas is something of an institution in Barcelona and its surrounding areas. When it opened it was Spain's first organic food supermarket and it now has 18 stores in and around Barcelona. The shop in Sitges is located opposite the large tourist information office. It offers pretty much everything that you would expect to find in a normal supermarket, including fresh bread and toiletries, but all organic. As with all organic and fair-trade food, you will find that prices are relatively high, so look out for the deals that Veritas are renowned for offering.
