Markets in Sitges, Spain - Food, Clothing and General Goods

Sitges has one permanent market - a food market that sits next to the Sitges train station. Aside from this, Sitges also has a weekly market that takes place on Fridays, selling a whole range of products, including clothing, kitchen utensils and knick-knacks.

Especially during the summer months in Sitges, it is also worth looking out for any small and more impromptu markets taking place around town - these often appeal to tourists and sell souvenirs, beach clothes, jewellery and toys.

This page provides details of the Sitges markets - where they take place, when they take place and what they sell. Plus, a map detailing where each of the markets is located.

Sitges Food Market

Sitges is the proud owner of an indoor permanent food market. The market sits above the large Mercadona supermarket. It contains approximately 30 stalls. The stalls offer raw meat and fish, dried goods, cheese, cured meats, fruit, vegetables and deli style treats such as olives and anchovies.

The quality of the food on offer at the market is high. And it is worth shopping around between the different stalls as you can find some real bargains. In general the stallholders are very friendly. It can add to your market experience if you ask their advice on what they think is particularly good that day or what are some of their specialties or favourites. On my visit to the market I left with a bag of some of the juiciest peaches that have ever passed my lips.

Tip On my visit to the market I was surprised to find that there was no bakery stall there. Therefore, if you are hoping to make sandwiches or buy some buns, you will need to make a trip to a local bakery or to the Mercadona supermarket downstairs to pick up your baked goods.

Sitges General Market

Sitges also hosts a weekly market selling a whole variety of products. Items on offer include clothing, jewellery, toiletries, kitchen utensils, leather goods and ornaments. The market takes place in an area slightly outside of the city centre called Poble Sec.

Sitges General Market Opening Times:
Friday: 10:00 - 14:00

Sitges' food market was renovated in 2008 and is of a very high quality. It is a great option for a picnic on the beach. It could also prove very useful if you are staying in self-catered accommodation. It offers fresh and organic produce - often with more variety than you will find in the supermarkets. Sitges' other markets are also fun to walk around - in a town full of creatives you will be pleased by the art and craft that is on offer.
