Sitges to Girona Airport Transfer: Travel Options to Sitges

Girona Airport sits a similar distance to Sitges as Reus Airport – both are further from Sitges than Barcelona Airport.

Transfer from Girona Airport to Sitges

Girona airport is located approximately 60km north of Barcelona. Girona is slightly further from Sitges than Reus airport – both airports are further from Sitges than Barcelona Airport.

It is difficult to travel directly from Girona Airport to Sitges – with no direct train, coach or bus services. Therefore, it is worth hiring a car or taking a taxi if you are in a larger group. Alternatively, if you have not yet booked your flight, you may find that, in the long run, it works out cheaper to fly straight into Barcelona Airport.

Transfer to Sitges from Girona Airport by Train

There is no train station at Girona Airport, therefore any train that you take will have to be taken from the train station in Girona city centre. In order to take the train it is necessary to head into Girona by taxi or coach.

A taxi from Girona airport to Girona city centre will cost around 20 euros and take around 25 minutes.

Alternatively you can catch the Sagales bus from Girona airport to Girona city centre. The buses run once every hour and the journey lasts about 30 minutes. A single journey costs around 2.85 euros. If you do not wish to catch the train to Barcelona, there is also the option of getting a coach that will take you directly from Girona Airport into Barcelona city centre. It will drop you at Estacio Nord coach station in Barcelona. See below for more details. From the coach station it will be necessary to catch the Metro from Arc de Triomph (Red Line, L1) to Urquinaona. At Urqinaona you will need to change to the Yellow Line (L4) and take the Metro one stop to Passeig de Gracia.

Once you have arrived at Girona Train station (where the town centre bus will drop you) it is necessary to catch a train firstly into Barcelona city centre – Passeig de Gracia or Sants. From Barcelona city centre you can take another train to Sitges. There are approximately five trains running every hour from Girona to Barcelona city centre. It will take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to get to Passeig de Gracia and 1 hour 30 minutes to get to Sants station. Trains to Sitges leave from both Passeig de Gracia and Sants stations. Trains from both stations leave twice every hour and take approximately 40 minutes. For trains from Barcelona to Sitges it is necessary to check Renfe’s local trains website Cercanias.

Once at the train station it is not always easy to decipher which train you should actually be catching. Both Passeig de Gracia and Sants are busy train stations with a constant stream of trains running through each platform. The train destination will not say ‘Sitges’ as this will not be its final destination. It is most likely to be heading to either ‘Vilanova i la Geltru’ or ‘St Vincenç de Calders’ – which will be stated on the front of the train. If you are confused as to which train to catch it is best to ask at the station information desk. They generally always speak English at the information desks.

Transfer to Sitges from Girona Airport by Coach

There are no direct coaches from Girona Airport to Sitges. It is, therefore, necessary to take a coach from Girona Airport into Barcelona. From Barcelona there are then buses and trains that run to Sitges (but no coaches).

The coach from Girona Airport to Barcelona city centre is provided by a company known as Barcelona Bus. Buses run approximately twice each hour and the journey lasts for 1 hour 15 minutes. For exact bus times and prices check the Official Barcelona Bus Website.

Barcelona Bus work in conjunction with Ryan Air. A large percentage of flights to Girona Airport are with Ryan Air. All of the buses are scheduled to coincide with the arrival of Ryan Air flights into Barcelona. Also, if a Ryan Air flight is delayed a bus will wait for the arrival of the flight to transfer passengers into Barcelona, regardless of the time. Therefore, if you are on a delayed Ryan Air flight you do not have to worry that there will be no coach to bring you into Barcelona once you finally arrive at Girona airport.

Once you arrive at Barcelona Nord coach station you can either take the train to Sitges (see above) or the bus to Sitges (see below).

Transfer to Sitges from Girona Airport by Bus

There are no buses that run directly from Girona Airport to Sitges. Therefore, it is necessary to go into Barcelona city centre and catch a bus from there. You can either take the train or the coach into Barcelona city centre (see above).

The buses that run to Sitges are organised by a company called MonBus. They run from outside 31 Ronda Universitat (close to Plaza Catalunya). The journey lasts 50 minutes. During the day (from 07:20 until 23:20) they are simply called the Mon Bus. However, after this they become a Nightbus with a number – no. 34. During the day they run twice an hour and at night (from 01:00 – 04:00) they run once every hour. A single ticket costs approximately 2.85 euros. These buses can be very useful if you need to get to Sitges in the middle of the night. The train to Sitges from Barcelona stops running at approximately 00:00 and doesn’t start again until 05:30. Therefore, you will need to get the bus to Sitges if you want to travel in the middle of the night. If you are travelling light you may even choose to spend an evening of fun in Barcelona before continuing on your journey to Sitges.

Transfer to Sitges from Girona Airport by Taxi

A taxi from Girona Airport to Sitges will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs approximately 120 euros.

It is not particularly easy to travel from Girona Airport to Sitges using public transport. However, if you get the trip planned in advance you can ensure that the transfer is relatively painless.
